A person-centered approach to ministering
About SALT
Three women, Alycia, Kristen and Nicolette, who interned with the Avila Institute of Gerontology, were tasked with designing an intergenerational program to engage young women into the ministry of caring for the aged and infirm. Since piloting the first SALT program in March of 2013 at South Boston, MA, the program has continued to evolve.

Between 2015 and 2018, SALT Program leaders emerged: Stacey Sumereau, Coordinator, Sr. Maria Therese and then Sr. Mary O'Donovan as Vocation Directors, Stacey, Assistant, and Melissa Maricich. Through their leadership and ministry, the program has grown in building deep relationships and improved quality of life.
Palliative Care
A Person-Centered Approach to Care
SALT provides palliative care to residents in Carmelite nursing homes. Palliative care improves the quality of life of those who are struggling with serious and life-threatening illness no matter the stage of the disease. The approach to care treats the whole person, rather than just the disease and includes psychological, social and spiritual support.
